Protected species
The legislative provisions in the UK for the protection of wild plants and animals are contained primarily in the Wildlife and Countryside Act (as amended) 1981. Certain species are also protected by European legislation, transposed into UK law through the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010.
