Bugs Count! Join the Nationwide Bug Hunt

Date: 02.08.2013

Type: Biodiversity

Bugs Count is a nationwide bug hunt to help the invertebrate conservation charity BugLife investigate how the built environment affects these incredible creatures. Invertebrates are animals without backbones, including insects, spiders, worms, slugs and snails. An incredible 96% of all known animals are invertebrates, so their importance to our planet is huge.

A survey pack is available in English or Welsh. The survey is best carried out between May and November when invertebrates are most active.

The OPAL website contains everything you need to know to carry out a survey and submit your results. You can also download a smart phone app if you prefer. OPAL is an initiative from the Natural History Museum to engage members of the public in science projects, such as recording wildlife.
