Join Denbighshire Countryside Service to Celebrate Welsh Wildlife

This year, Wales Biodiversity Week promises to be better than ever in Denbighshire, with a range of exciting events for adults and children. The annual week-long celebration of wildlife around the country takes place this year between 8 and 16 June. Denbighshire Countryside Service will be holding a variety of free events during the week.

Little ternYou can join wardens at the little tern colony at Gronant on Tuesday 11 to hear about how these small seabirds are faring at their only breeding site in Wales. Meet at 11am on the viewing platform on the beach.

On Wednesday 12 June there will be ‘Bug Hunting for Beginners’ at Loggerheads Country Park near Mold (1.30-3.30pm) where you will use different techniques to find creepy crawlies in the woodland. Call 01352 810614 to book your place. The minimum age for participants is eight years but it is suitable for adults too.

On Thursday 13 from 8.30pm will be ‘Nightlife @ Nercwys’, a guided walk through the forest to catch a glimpse of some nocturnal wildlife such as moths, bats and owls. Booking is required for this event (call 01352 810614).

To round off Wales Biodiversity Week there will be a Wildlife Fun Day at Loggerheads Country Park on Sunday 16 June. Drop in anytime from 11am to 4pm to join in with river dipping, mammal surveying and children’s crafts.
